Overview

In our User Centered Research Evaluation class our team of six utilized Affinity Diagraming, Sequence Consolidation, Flow Consolidation, and Visioning to provide effective strategies/remedies to the current Course 15-213 (Introduction to Computer Systems). We interviewed several students in the class and evaluated the effectiveness of the existing teaching methods. We then proposed an interface called LineUp that would deal with the problems we found with the setup.

1 - Problems Discovered

  • Communication Breakdowns between students, TA, and professor

  • Unproductive Debugging (TAs not helpful, solutions repeated)

  • Scheduling Inefficiencies ( Whiteboard system was ineffective, long wait times to access TAs, and wasted time)

2 - Our Solution

  • Students submit questions online and Lineup clusters common issues together

  • TAs can prepare responses to common questions (will be prepared to help student)

  • TA assigns time slots to address students (no need to wait and idea of time is expected and lab is less crowded)

3 - Constraints

  • Technical Implementation

  • More time required of TAs to prepare answers

  • Walk-ins no longer a viable option
